What you'll learn

The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 gave employees the right to a safe and healthy workplace. The OSH Act also created OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which creates regulations to protect worker health and safety across the country. To comply with OSHA requirements and build safety culture in the workplace, employers need to ensure that employees have a solid understanding of OSHA's mission and how the agency protects them on the job. Areas covered in the course include OSHA and its mission, employees rights under OSHA, employers responsibilities under OSHA, how OSHA inspections are conducted, filing a complaint with OSHA, learning more about safety and health issues, and more.

Description

Every year, thousands of workplace injuries are prevented by people who simply knew their rights and spoke up. This Intro to OSHA course is your first line of defense in building a safer career. We strip away the legal jargon to give you a practical, grounded understanding of U.S. workplace safety laws.

We start with the basics: your Nine Rights as a Worker. You’ll learn that you have the power to request an inspection, view injury logs, and—most importantly—voice safety concerns without being punished. From there, we dive into the technical tools you use every day. We’ll show you how to read chemical hazard labels at a glance and where to find critical first-aid info on a Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

The course wraps up by teaching you how to think like a safety professional using the Hierarchy of Controls. You’ll learn why a physical guard on a machine is often better than just wearing gloves, and how to build habits that keep you and your coworkers safe. By the end of this 45-minute session, you won’t just be "compliant"—you’ll be empowered.
